Yahoo Widget TV

So yahoo and intel have teamed up to bring interenet functionality to regular television sets. Using existing technologies such as flash, javascript, xml, etc they hope to have you the viewer use the tv to surf the web for things like tracking stocks, sports teams, etc.

Are you willing to surf the web on your tv? MSN TV was a big bust and I don't think tv screens have matured to the point where the experience is as crisp as it is on a computer LCD.

Your Thoughts?

This is interesting! I think as more and more people move to HD TV and have some setup box connected to the TV that's connected to the internet, this is definitely going to happen. It may take years or decades for it to be common place, but it makes sense for TV watching and internet browsing to converge over time.

Another surprising issue in this area is the fact that Google didn't get to this concept before yahoo. Do you think they were a bit too busy with Android and the mobile phone strategy and this is a sneak surprise for them?

Any possiblity that Google will try to steal yahoo's thunder on this issue as well?

Most newer laptops are already equipped to output to your TV. Check for an s-video output. And almost all new TVs accept s-video, RCA or VGA (PC Input) connections. All you need is a $20 cable. That's the problem - stores don't sell cables. But you can buy them online for about $20. Then watch television, movies, etc. Zipityzap.com makes it easy.
