Dimdim's Future

The concept behind Dimdim is nothing revoutionary, but among its competitors, I think it is the only one that is open source. Additionally, its presence around the globe - it has an office in India - will undoubtedly give Dimdim an advantage on the global market. The next few months will be very crucial for Dimdim as it upgrades features and markets apps.

Overall, how do you think Dimdim will fare against the rest of the videoconferencing sites?

Dimdim does look like a good company but they have a long way to go to catch up to some competitors that have been around for a while like Webex.
The recent funding and the office in India may help with momentum. Allowing them to innovate faster then the competition. Now all they need are some good ideas to set them apart. I hope they have smart people on their staff!

With gas prices and travel costs so high, this industry is prime for success. Companies want to find cheaper ways to collaborate with national or global clients. There's enough room in the market for several competitors. So I don't think it's about direct competition with other videoconferencing sites but growing the market as a whole.

I'm not convinced the open source angle is sufficient to win help it win against the competitors over the long run. The space is very crowded and their currently product does not stand out.
