Quant Doerr Scoring

A reader of my venture scoring blog wanted me to start a thread about Quant Doerr.

Well, its a proprietary stat regression analysis of past venture successes, and essentially I am trying to predict and score early stage venture funded companies. I have setup a virtual fund which has invested in over 10 deals since last October.

This prediction model hopes to be a tool to assist VCs, LPs, and possibly new entrepreneurs about to start their own companies.

That's about it really. Stay tuned to my blog and eventually my virtual track record.

Cheers,
Jeff

That's a pretty cool idea. How does one find out the QD score for startups?

Unfortunately it is not available as yet, as I am still finetuning the algorithms. I will try to get the alpha out asap.

And what is wrong with the Startup Battle as a predictions tool ;?)

ambitious project - looking forward to the alpha

Established companies issue vast amounts of quarterly performance data and yet, predicting their future stock prices is still more voodoo art then science. Therefore, making even slightest sense of skimpy startup data, would indeed be a major accomplishment. Good luck and congratulations for having enough nerve and smarts to even try.

Zdravko- Startup Battle is a good prediction tool based mostly on crowd sourcing. But crowd sourcing has human intuition built into it. I believe a portion of Startup Battle's data can definitely be included into the model.

Thanks for the encouragement Zdravko! It is indeed a challenge to say to people I can quantify what you do. Whether they are doctors or loan officers, its no joke hearing such quant models can eventually replace their primary job functions.
But it is just a simple experiment for me to see if the result can indeed be a useful support tool to aid investors and entrepreneurs, just like how movies are being predicted now.

This rocks Jeff. I'll be following closely to post your results.
