If you haven't checked out Soda Head it's a fun site that let's you read public comments and share your opinion about current events. I think it's a great time waster but lacks in the real information.
Can a site survive/thrive as simply entertainment?

Sounds like they have over half a million unique visitors and $8M in the bank, so I think they're in a pretty good position. Although there are a number of other polling platforms. The value of the site is the information plus what other community members contribute in terms of answers and other questions.
I agree with Kimura. The real value is the countless opinions on the site. It's like a thousand focus groups being conducted at once. Think of the value of that info for advertisers, public relations, entrepreneurs, and more.
